[Celestlab] Sun position

Dear Developers,
My name is Michele Colauzzi and I am a Scilab user since 2005. In the near future I will be busy to develop algorithm to compute light interception of crops grown in mixed systems crops+solor panels. Everything will be done in Scilab. Among the first aspects there is the computation of sun position (Azimuth and Elevation)  given local time and coordinates (Lon, Lat). I thing that CelestLab could help me to tackle this aspect. However, I haven't found a function doing directlly this step.

Could you please help me to suggest the requested steps for sun position?

Dear Michele,

you can easily compute the Sun elevation and azimuth, for a given location and a given time with CelestLab. The function CL_eph_sun gives the Sun position in Earth Centered Inertial (ECI) reference frame. Then you have to compute the coordinates of this vector in a Earth Centered  Earth Fixed (ECF) reference frame with CL_fr_convert and finally in a topocentric reference frame with CL_fr_topoNMat.

The demo Sun elevation on Earth does almost what you want. Analyzing the code of this demo will help you. ( see ..\CELESTLAB\trunk\demos\Astro_stuff\Sun_elevation_on_Earth.sce). Reading the introduction on reference frame may help you also.
