Yep, I will test this later. We have Vorona working on the russian
localization and I think it is working for him.

Hmm, what do you mean by this ?
To add a new language in Scilab, under Linux at least, I must update the
variable  ALL_LINGUAS in the configure.ac and to copy localization files
for each module and that is!

PS: I switch this chat to the localization ML.

I am using utf8 linux and it works for me without any changes. I didn't
check it on Windows, but I have Windows on one of the PC's and will test
it ASAP.

I will probably work under Windows without any problem.

I was more wondering about the behaviour with Russian/CP1251 (ie, not
using unicode/utf8).

I fail to build windows version with Russian localization with MS Visual Studio Express. If someone can build it then I'll check it on Windows with great pleasure. But now I am going back to Linux where I have working Scilab 5.0...

Build resume for solution:
========== Build: 21 succeeded, 5 failed, 98 up-to-date, 5 skipped ==========

Re: [Scilab-Dev] A few changes in localization and configure options.

To check Russian under windows  (Code page CP1251), you don't need build from source, a binary version (Scilab5Beta2) is sufficient.

But you need following files

   locale\....\scilab.mo

and

   modules\localization\jar\org.scilab.modules.localization.jar

you can copy these two files from your linux machine to Windows binary  and this  establish a test environment.

If I am right, DOS console  'scilex.exe'  can display  your language  but Java console 'WScilab.exe' will fail.

Thank you. After coping localization from Linux to Windows I got behavior just like you described. Perfect codepage in console ('cmd') window and troubles in Java console. But menu in main window looks good. Other Java menus look good too.

 I am attaching screen shot where two scilab versions running. Interesting thing with scipad: I can't enter comment in russian but can copy/paste it from regular notepad.

 Hope it helps...

try this way, ..

From the attached file in the Scilab dev. mail list ,  entitled

'Non Unicode language locale patch for Windows and Linux'

Download the zip file contains my patch with source and 3 Windows .dll file (in bin directory).

Copy  these dll files to replace your Windows binary and try again.

Thank you. With patched DLL's Java console looks good too. Scilex.exe is not affected. Scipad behavior is not changed.

Do you need screen shots?

you can copy these two files from your linux machine to Windows binary  and this  establish a test environment.

If I am right, DOS console  'scilex.exe'  can display  your language  but Java console 'WScilab.exe' will fail.

I fail to build windows version with Russian localization with MS Visual Studio Express. If someone can build it then I'll check it on Windows with great pleasure. But now I am going back to Linux where I have working Scilab 5.0...

Build resume for solution:

Thank you. With patched DLL's Java console looks good too. Scilex.exe is not affected. Scipad behavior is not changed.

Do you need screen shots?

 I am attaching screen shot where two scilab versions running. Interesting thing with scipad: I can't enter comment in russian but can copy/paste it from regular notepad.

To check Russian under windows  (Code page CP1251), you don't need build from source, a binary version (Scilab5Beta2) is sufficient.

But you need following files

   locale\....\scilab.mo

and

   modules\localization\jar\org.scilab.modules.localization.jar

you can copy these two files from your linux machine to Windows binary  and this  establish a test environment.

And russian linux version screenshots. It is two instances of Scilab launched with commands:

 LANG=ru_RU.UTF-8 bin/scilab

 LANG=ru_RU.KOI8-R bin/scilab

P.S. Russian input in scipad works well.
