Simple tutorial for SciLab

This post has NOT been accepted by the mailing list yet.
Its been a few months since I used SciLab and I find I forgotten everything. I thought I recalled there being a simple steps user guide/tutotial, but I cannot find it?

Some examples of things I cannot remember; and cannot find a source of information for:

How do I exit the console without resorting to killing the executable?

How do I define a function?

eg. What is wrong with this? And what does the error message mean?

-->function f = sigmoid( x ); f = 3x^2 - 2x^3; endfunction;
 f = 3x^2 - 2x^3;
         !--error 276
Missing operator, comma, or semicolon.
at line       1 of function sigmoid called by :
function f = sigmoid( x ); f = 3x^2 - 2x^3; endfunction;

Sorry for the dumb questions; but ... I must be dumb:)
